-Are there any women in your life right now that give you strength?
The woman in my life who inspires me the most is my mom. My entire life I've watched her push through difficult situations and try to provide the best for me. She is my best friend now and there isn't anything I hide from her. When I'm stuck with a tough decision I know I can count on her to guide me.
-Who were some of your role models when you were growing up?
Two of my role models growing up were Beyonce and Oprah. As a young girl I could see qualities of myself in them and they made me feel as if doing anything I wanted to do was possible. I really admired Oprah's ability to grab an audience's attention whenever she spoke and how much she's fought throughout her childhood. Beyonce was just so mesmerizing me when I was 5 years old. I was infatuated with her and I loved how carefree she was at the time. She owned her look and her spirit felt so free to me. They both inspired me to listen and follow my true self.
-You’re originally from NYC but moved to Miami- my favorite city! (We go there every summer for Miami Swim Week). What is one of your favorite places or things to do in Miami?
Some of my favorite places in Miami aren't necessary in the popular areas must more off in the outskirts to get good food and pastries. I love getting food in Little Haiti! I also really love some of the little stores in Wynwood they're really cute and personal.
-In your interview with Zendaya, you mentioned being interested in fashion but never seeing models that looked like you. Do you see the industry changing? And how would you like to see the fashion industry continue to change in the future?
I do see the industry changing but there is still a long way to go.
We need to get rid of tokenism on photoshoots and hiring one black girl or one plus size model to reach some type of quota and just make diversity the norm!
-You recently made headlines in the campaign for Everlane’s new lingerie line. How does it feel to see yourself (in underwear) on such a big platform?
Seeing myself on such a big platform is such an amazing and satisfying feeling for the sole reason that I felt so comfortable on the day of the shoot. I didn't question anything. I felt very at ease and supported. I wasn't made to feel different and there wasn't focus on my body except for in how I was delivering movement. It was just about me and how I felt in that moment.
-What was your experience shooting Chromat with photographer Anastasia Garcia?
Shooting with Anastasia was such a blast. She bring great energy to the set and we had a lot in common. She also gives great direction and feedback which is super important to me when working with a photographer.
-What does being a #ChromatBABE mean to you?
Being a Chromat Babe means being strong and assertive. Someone who doesn't back down and is very vocal. They are powerful, the grab the attention of the room and they are heard.
They shine.
-What article of clothing or way of presenting makes you feel powerful?
I love presenting myself with my hair pulled back. Something about nothing any distractions and having my best face forward feels really powerful to me. I don't feel like I need to hide behind hair to present myself well.
-What's your favorite Chromat piece and why?
My favorite Chromat Piece is the Strata Bodysuit. I love the long sleeves and turtle neck. It give me a sort of strong fembot/super secrets sexy spy vibe that I really dig!
-If you weren't in the fashion industry, what other profession could you see yourself in?
Growing up I always wanted to be a surgeon.
I loved the idea of being able to do something that could potentially change someone's lives for the better and be able to use my skills to help so many people.
I was obsessed with watching medical shows ( I still am) and even started watching surgeries online. I then found out how long I would have to be in school and decided that it wasn't the best fit for me. I still have hopes of playing a surgeon on tv! That way I can hit two birds with one stone.
-What advice would you give to your younger self at age 15?
Ignore everyone that is mean to you. Know that although some people can be harsh, and call you sensitive...your feelings are valid. You are beautiful and you will be taken seriously. I love you.
