The SS25 collection will be our last before Chromat embarks on an indefinite hiatus. 

“After 15 years of building the gender and size-inclusive swimwear brand Chromat, I’ve decided to pause the label after our SS25 collection to realign my creative practice with my evolving gender identity. This break will allow me to step away from fashion and focus on self-exploration and developing my quilting practice- a powerful tool for community, resistance, and healing.” says Chromat founder Bex McCharen in a personal essay for New York Magazine describing the decision to end Chromat - or at least as the fashion industry and the Chromat community know it to be. 

To pair with the final collection, Bex wrote an essay hinting at what's next. In it, Bex speaks for the first time about their gender transition from cis woman to trans masc non binary. It’s a deeply personal chapter for them, and for Chromat as a brand who has always been dedicated to creating garments that enable plus size, disabled, queer and trans people to feel embodied and liberated.
