SPRING/SUMMER 2020: TEN
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2019 9PM AT SPRING STUDIOS
We’d like to express the deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported, collaborated with, featured, written about, and of course worn Chromat over the past 10 years. None of this would be possible without you.
The Spring/Summer 2020 Collection celebrates Chromat’s 10 year anniversary by exploring the past, present and future of Chromat. Revisiting some of our favorite collaborations from the past 10 years in a new future-forward focus on collective gatherings from pep rallies to alien abduction; SS20 illuminates the bright future of innovation and collaboration at Chromat.
Celebrating 10 years of Chromat is a graduation, wedding, birthday and family reunion all in one.
One of the best compliments we’ve ever received is when #ChromatBABE Maya Margarita told us “behind the scenes, Chromat shows feel like going home for the holidays. Love fills the tight backstage spaces and carries us to the end of that runway and back, where we dance and celebrate each other's power. It's such a beautiful, iconic, and humbling experience to be a part of.”
To be accepted and celebrated within fashion (and the world) for being who you are has always been our mission. And if our message has helped you feel even a little more confident, strong and empowered, then that is our greatest accomplishment.
It is our creative family who has made Chromat possible, and it is family who are celebrated on the runway today. Looking back at the past 10 years, our highest highs and most inspiring moments have always been collaborations. Building an idea together with other creatives from different fields, mediums and methods- has always made the final product bigger than either of our wildest dreams.
THE FUTURE IS INCLUSIVE, SUSTAINABLE AND ACCESSIBLE.
We are committed to designing innovative swim and bodywear while ensuring a healthier planet. Chromat swim is made with sustainable fabric that uses regenerated nylon spun from fishing nets recovered from the world’s oceans. We also use up-cycled fabrics and work with safe, ethical, fair-wage factories. In fact, some of the vinyl garments in the SS20 collection are cut from the runway backdrop we created for SS15 inspired by Sol Le Witt.
Our goal is to design empowering garments for all bodies. This runway show celebrates the inspiring women, femmes and non-binary #ChromatBABES who inspire us to be bold and unapologetic every day.
Looking forward, we celebrate the next generation of #ChromatBABES being raised in a new era centering sustainability and inclusion. This is the future we are creating together.
CHROMAT SS20 PRESS
"A white cutout dress, sported by a plus-size model, had lettering that spelled out “Sample Size” — a gesture of rebellion against the strict rules of the fashion industry that we are used to."
"We’re grateful for all McCharen-Tran has done to help usher in real change the past 10 years and we can’t wait to see where the designer takes her inclusive and sustainable designs next."
– Teen Vogue
"Since its inception, Chromat has done things its way—and the fashion industry has been better for it."
"I felt compelled to DAHNCE but the models took over, storming down the runway in cobalt blue and flaming red swimwear, with a surprise serenade from Rico Nasty. I love it here!"
– Man Repeller
"Every single model was evoking excited shrieks and cheers from the crowd, as this show was a literal celebration of all things fashionable and beautiful."
"Not only did the 53-look show cast a wide net of people but their outfits served to highlight their differences, not conceal them."
